Department Councils

The councils are appointed by the respective heads of department to ensure academic staff's - including PhD students-, technical and administrative staff's as well as students' participation and involvement in the department's research and education. In pursuance of Section 41, Subsection 1 of the regulations of the University of Copenhagen, department councils have been appointed at all University departments as per 1 April 2013.

The department councils are advisory bodies without decision-making authority. The department councils' responsibilities include: department visions, teaching and research strategies, long-term strategies for future recruitment, study environment and forecasts/financial position.

Each department council is made up by 6 to 12 members appointed by the academic staff - including PhD students -, the technical and administrative staff and students, respectively, and chaired by the head of department.  

The department councils convene 4 times a year. 

The Rector of the University of Copenhagen has formulated rules of procedure for the department councils.
