EMPLOYMENT

She will take over this newly established position as of 1 September.

- We wish to build up strong external relations, both nationally and internationally. We wish to strengthen research and innovation, and we will focus on cross-disciplinary projects and communication. This is why we establish the new position as Associate Dean. Mette Wier will be able to make a valuable contribution in this new position, since she has the profile and the “punch” that it takes, says Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen.

In offering the position to Mette Wier, Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen follows the unanimous recommendation of the employment committee. The Dean will be welcoming Mette Wier to the position as Associate Dean of Research and External Relations on 1 September. She will also become head of the Copenhagen Graduate School of Social Sciences.

Wide range of experience from research institutions

Mette Wier is 53 years old. She comes from her position as professor of the economics of the public sector and welfare management at the Department of Society and Globalization at Roskilde University where she is also head of Roskilde Doctoral Schools.

She is a trained economist, and she earned her PhD at the University of Copenhagen. Mette Weir was a researcher at the National Environmental Research Institute (NERI), a senior researcher at AKF, Danish Institute of Governmental Research, head of research and professor at what has now become the Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO), the University of Copenhagen, and for eight years she held the position as executive director of AKF.

- Mette Wier has broad academic experience, and she is used to working with many different groups of academics. The fact that her background includes so many aspects will be at the center of the Faculty’s efforts to strengthen cross-disciplinarity, says Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen.

Interest in societal matters strengthens the relations to external partners

Mette Wier has sat on a number of councils, committees and commissions. In her position as executive director of AKF she headed the development of AKF’s networks and position as supplier of knowledge to the public sector.

- Our new Associate Dean is good at creating relations between research institutions and relevant external partners, and this is an ability we wish to benefit from. Her substantial management experience will undoubtedly strengthen our internal and external communications to support our other activities. I very much look forward to working with Mette Wier, says Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen.
