New Head of Department at the Department of Political Science
Lars Bo Kaspersen has been appointed new Head of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. On 1 May, he will succeed Lars Bille, who has been Head of Department since 2002.
Lars Bo Kaspersen is 49 years old and, this spring, he will resign his present post as Head at the Department of Business (previously known as Center for Business and Politics) at CBS. Among other things, he has participated in the initiation of a new interdisciplinary bachelor degree programme in business economics and sociology, and has contributed to a strong internationalisation at the Department.
In charge of political theories
Lars Bo Kaspersen is professor, PhD in political science and graduate in sociology. He is a former student of and employee at the Faculty of Social Sciences from which he received his master's degree at the Department of Sociology in 1991. He has also worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science at Aarhus University. State theory, state-market relations and comparative political economy from a critical perspective are among his main areas of interest.
He has contributed with a major scientific production within his field, and is an active agent within his disciplines. Among other things, Lars Bo Kaspersen is co-author of the book 'Klassisk og moderne politisk teori' (UK: ‘Classic and modern political theory') that offers a broad introduction into central political theories. Along with his co-author, he received the Danish Sven Henningsen-award for the book in 2009. The award was given for the year's best, most well presented and easily understood book within the disciplines contemporary history, political science and international politics.
Returns with international experience
Lars Bo Kaspersen has established a broad international network. He has spent more than five years at English and American universities, most recently at Stanford for a period of time in 2009.
Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Troels Østergaard Sørensen, finds it to be an advantage that the future Head of Department has studied and graduated at the Faculty, and, at the same time, holds a large amount of experience from his period outside the University of Copenhagen.
- I am certain that the Department of Political Science continues to grow and flourish with Lars Bo Kaspersen in the driver's seat. I completely trust that Lars Bo is able to ensure that quality of research and education in political science continues to prosper. Having gained a broad level of experience at other institutions, both nationally and internationally, he is, among other things, able to focus on new educational initiatives and develop the Department's international profile - completely in line with the Faculty's ambition to be an internationally leading academic environment within social sciences, says Troels Østergaard Sørensen.
