New Head of Department at the Department of Psychology
Professor of psychology Søren Kyllingsbæk will be taking over management responsibility as Head of Department at the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences. He will be taking over from current Head of Department Axel Larsen on 1 January 2015.
“The Department of Psychology needs to be prepared for the future, and a clear plan has to be developed to strengthen and develop the academic quality and profile of both research and education. The work developing talent, the focus on recruitment as well as the profile of the Department’s research needs to be intensified. I am confident that Søren Kyllingsbæk has the academic and personal insight needed to create the proper management of the Department focusing on cooperation to reach common goals,” says Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen, The Faculty of Social Sciences.
When Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen transfers the management responsibility to Sørens Kylllingsbæk from current Head of Department Axel Larsen on 1 January 2015 he follows the recommendation from a unanimous employment committee.
Top researcher with management experience
Søren Kyllingsbæk is 41 years old and a professor at the Department of Psychology, where he is also trained as a psychologist, and earned his PhD degree.
Søren Kyllingsbæk has a brilliant career in visual perception, attention and short term memory. Furthermore he has extensive teaching experience primarily in the area of cognition and neuropsychology. In this field of research he has made a career which has been funded by substantial funding, which were granted for the many cross-disciplinary projects among others he has been part of. For example Søren Kyllingsbæk was one of the originators of the cross-disciplinary “Social Fabrics” project, where psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, economists, physicists and engineers work together.
For three years Søren Kyllingsbæk was part of the Department’s management team in his capacity as head of the Department’s PhD programme. He was also member of the study board for six years until 2012, and he has also headed several research groups.
Long-term research visits at international universities
Søren Kyllingsbæk has been on a number of long-term research visits at leading foreign research institutions, for instance University of California, Santa Barbara in the US and University of Cambridge in the UK.
“Our future Head of Department has extensive international experience which is a great strength since we aim at building a substantial research profile for the Department both in Denmark and internationally. At the same time we aim at developing new cross-disciplinary projects, and in this context we can also draw in Søren Kyllingsbæk’s extensive experience,” says Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen who looks forward to welcoming Søren Kyllingsbæk in his new job.
Professor of psychology Axel Larsen has been Head of Department at the Department of Psychology since 2006. He will return to his position as a professor at the Department on 1 January.
