Short description of the thesis

Children of parents with mental disorders are at increased risk of adverse outcomes, highlighting the need for effective preventive interventions. Yet, evidence for such interventions remains uncertain, and preventive parenting support is rarely integrated into Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS). This thesis examines preventive interventions for parents with mental disorders, focusing on AMHS as a setting for prevention. Across four studies, it synthesises evidence on preventive psychosocial interventions and examines the feasibility of integrating a brief, transdiagnostic, mentalisation-based parenting intervention into  AMHS. The thesis identifies substantial limitations in the existing evidence base and demonstrates that preventive parenting support can be feasibly and acceptably delivered within AMHS, supporting further evaluation of preventive parenting interventions in this setting.
