Departments hold on to fine QS rankings
According to QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2018, the University of Copenhagen is best in Scandinavia and in the top 10 in Europe within the fields of Anthropology, Political Science and Sociology. Development Studies is now number 10 in the world.
Sociology moves up 12 positions in the rankings to number 30 in the world, which is among the best 10 per cent within the subject. Anthropology and Political Science keep the high level from last year, now ranked 17 and 29 in the world respectively. Development Studies - a collaboration between the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science - is now ranked 10 in the world.
Economics and Psychology both have the same ranking as last year. Thus, all departments at the Faculty are still ranked in the top of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Economics is one of the largest research areas featured in the rankings, making Economics at the University of Copenhagen among the best 13-25 per cent in the world.
- For the departments either to hold on to or to improve their rankings compared to last year is a strong indication of the high quality of the research conducted at the Faculty. This is also confirmed by the results of the international research quality assessment from 2016 and by the large number of applicants to our degree programmes. Sociology's ranking this year is a significant result, says Dean Troels Østergaard Sørensen.
QS University Rankings has reached its conclusions by looking at academic reputation, employer reputation as well as citations in papers published in important international journals.
