Copenhagen Ocean Hub is launched

OCEAN RESEARCH

An interdisciplinary, strategic initiative from the University of Copenhagen now sees the light of day: Copenhagen Ocean Hub must explore the oceans as a social, political and cultural space and thus contribute to solving key problems in managing the oceans.

Ocean Hub's main goal is to create a common development space for 30 marine researchers at the University of Copenhagen. Together, the researchers will launch innovative, ocean-related projects and disseminate their insights widely in Denmark and the rest of Europe - not least to political groups.

A hub of many trades

Ocean Hub gathers researchers come from the faculties of humanities, social sciences, law and natural sciences.

The initiative continues a rich tradition of human-centered marine research at the University of Copenhagen. The hub collects threads from a number of ongoing research projects (funded by, among others, the European Research Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Carlsberg Foundation and the Velux Foundation).

Ocean Hub is led by a steering group consisting of professor Christian Bueger (political science), associate professor Carsten Jahnke (Saxo Institute), associate professor Beatriz Martinez Romera (law) and professor Henrik Vigh (anthropology). Ocean Hub is coordinated by postdoc Felix Mallin (Political Science).
