The Green Tripartite Agreement, which was adopted this summer, will lead to a historic reorganisation of Denmark's land use and agriculture. But what effects on Denmark's economy, environment and the individual sectors of society can we really expect?

Researchers from the Department of Economics, IFRO and the DREAM modelling group will shed light on this with the advanced modelling tools GreenREFORM and TargetEcon.

‘We will estimate the effects of the agreement at the macroeconomic level as well as on specific sectors such as agriculture, forestry and the food industry,’ says Peter Birch Sørensen and elaborates:

‘In addition, the project will assess the environmental benefits for the Danish population, such as improved water and air quality, biodiversity protection and recreational opportunities.’

More effective and just transition

The project, which the Novo Nordisk Foundation is supporting with DKK 14.4 million, will help politicians implement the ‘Green Denmark Agreement’ in a way that maximises the benefits for society.

‘By combining economic and environmental analyses, we can identify synergies and trade-offs between different policy goals – and thus contribute to a more efficient and fairer green transition,’ says Peter Birch Sørensen.

The research project is called ‘Measuring the economic, environmental and climate effects of the ’Aftale om et Grønt Danmark’ agreement’. In addition to Peter Birch Sørensen, the steering group for the project includes Mette Termansen and Berit Hasler from IFRO and Peter Philip Stephensen and Jens Sand Kirk from DREAM.
