Danish EU scholar receives Nordic award

The Nils Klim Prize is an annual prize, which is awarded to promising scholars under the age of 35. The Prize consists of 250 000 Norwegian kroner and goes to a Nordic scholar which has made an excellent contribution within the arts, humanities, social sciences, law or theology.

- Adler-Nissen has renewed the discipline of International Relations by integrating into this predominantly a-sociological field, insights from the sociologists Erving Goffman and Pierre Bourdieu. Furthermore, she is original in the way she combines anthropological fieldwork methods with comprehensive analysis of diplomatic negotiations, says Chair of the Nils Klim Committee Frans Gregersen, Professor, DPhil, University of Copenhagen.

Crucial foundation for more peaceful international relations

Adler-Nissen’s research primarily revolves around European integration, especially the euro, the Danish and British opt-outs and the EU's common foreign policy. Her research also focuses on international relations theory and diplomacy.  

- It is a great honour to receive this award and recognition of my research area at a time when the world is struggling with a range of international conflicts. It is important that we address the roots of these conflicts, but also develop new theories and methods to capture their particular dynamics in a context of increased interdependence and communication. This is a crucial foundation for envisaging possible ways of creating more peaceful international relations, says Rebecca Adler-Nissen.  

Award ceremony in Norway

The winner of the acclaimed Holberg Prize was also announced today. This is an international research award of 4,5 million NOK and this year the British author, scholar and critic Marina Warner receives the Holberg Prize 2015. She receives the prize for her work on analyzing how stories and myths reflect their surroundings, and especially in relation to gender roles and feminism.

HRH Crown Prince Haakon will present the Holberg Prize and the Nils Klim Prize to the two award winners at a ceremony in Bergen, Norway, on 10 June 2015.
