It is a strong, international leader and researcher with a good eye for strengthening the connection between education, research and the surrounding society who takes up office as the Faculty of Social Sciences’ new Associate Dean for Education on 1 September.

I have personally benefitted a lot from international experiences, and I hope to be able to give the students at the Faculty of Social Sciences the same opportunity to combine their studies with international adventures and experience

For many years now, Professor Sara Hagemann has held positions and played a main role in the development of study programmes and courses at the London School of Economics (LSE). At the same time, as EU expert, she has provided research-based advice to political decision-makers, and she has researched EU policy at a series of Brussels think tanks. Most recently, as head of the LSE School of Public Policy, she has helped develop the school’s new focus on online and further education programmes.

In short, she was a bit of a scoop for the position if you ask the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mikkel Vedby Rasmussen: ‘We can learn so much from Sara. She has a mind for development and experience from one of the best universities in Europe in developing study programmes capable of attracting a diverse group of talented students. Therefore, she also has experience with developing an inclusive and respectful academic environment which gives pluralism pride of place, while at the same time making sure that the students are challenged at the highest academic level’, he says.

Sara Hagemann looks forward to cooperating with students and teachers and to getting to know the faculty’s many study programmes. About her new position as Associate Dean for Education, she says: ‘I look forward to developing the study programmes in the various departments and to giving the students a good experience of their programme. I have personally benefitted a lot from international experiences, and I hope to be able to give the students at the Faculty of Social Sciences the same opportunity to combine their studies with international adventures and experience.

Sara Hagemann holds a bachelor degree in public administration from Roskilde University as well as master’s and PhD degrees from the LSE. In connection with her appointment as Associate Dean, she was evaluated for a professorship at the Department of Political Science and will form an active part of the research environment at the department.
